Lung cancer is one of the most dangerous types of cancers around. This is because it tends to spread to other parts of the body at a very early stage — by the time the cancer is detected, it has already invaded other body organs. Every parent knows that their child are copy-cats. In reality, they copy so frequently, and so skillfully, that they are virtually “copying machines”. They emulate what you say, how you express it, and when you say it. They emulate the manner by which you move about, how you act, how you react to events, how you consider other people, and just about anything else you do.

But we also appreciate that at times, we desire to teach them a specific thing, and they learn something else. By way of an example, you’re attempting to teach your child about gardening and how much fun it is to grow plants, but they learn how to run away when they spot a maggot or a spider, creating a brand new permanent phobia (or plain “extreme repulsion”).

The trouble is needless to say that children learn at an exceptional rate. They just don’t reliably learn that which you want them to learn. And it’s worse because sometimes you don’t appreciate (or don’t even think about) what you intend your child to learn.

But choosing what you intend your child to learn is not foremost when you’re sitting alongside your son attempting to teach them something. Well, it is important, but it’s obviously at the forefront of your awareness. The significant times are when you are not trying to openly teach your child something, but they are going to learn something nonetheless. It’s in these situations that you especially need to be receptive to what your child is learning.

As an example, if you and your spouse are at loggerheads about something, and either of you curses and stamps off rather than coping with the arguement coherently and equitably, what will your child learn? Well, the first thing they’ll learn is a brand new word, one that you don’t want them saying in public! The subsequent thing they’re likely to learn is: “when in a disagreement, stamp off rather than coping with it.” Or something like that, anyhow.

So knowing that your child is going to learn a little something in EACH AND EVERY circumstance they are in is vital. Deciding beforehand what you’d prefer them to understand is something different. And that’s the reason why the most valuable empowering question for parents is: what do I want my child to learn from this?

If you can retain a question like this in your head as much as possible, and specifically where you are strongly emotive or reacting from custom, you’ll begin to have a tremendous faculty to have an effect on your child even more than you do currently. You’ll be able to show them more of how you want them to behave, in a way that’s more like you at your best, instead of you at your most horrible. You’ll be able to congruently say “do what I do AND say”, without worrying so much about your words and behaviour being aligned. You’ll be able to tell your child as they mature why you behave the way you do, realising that they’ll by now have had years of seeing you act consistent with your values and standards.

But… you will only be successful in doing this if you have a crucial state of mind that parents have to encompass, something that makes this empowering question effective. By itself, the question is advantageous, but it’s not the only thing you need.

1. 80% of dogs that are infected by Canine Parvovirus that are untreated die in four to five days - with the older 2a and 2b strains of the virus.

2. Fully-vaccinated dogs, including both puppies and adults, are being infected by and dying from the most recent 2c strain of the Parvovirus.

3. For reasons nobody yet understands, some breeds, such as Labrador Retrievers, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Black & Tan Coonhounds, Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherds are more prone to the Parvovirus.

4. The four worst states for Canine Parvovirus outbreaks are California, Texas, Arizona and Florida, although every state in the US, including Hawaii and even Alaska, and especially the southern states, are being affected.

5. The Parvo virus is incredibly hardy, can live in the ground for up to 20 years and can survive extremes of temperature, including frost and desert climates.

6. If you take your dogs to the vet’s for treatment, your bill may be anywhere from $500 to over $6,000 per dog.

7. You can only expect a 50% - 80% chance of survival if you take your dog to the vet.

8. It is now believed that the latest 2c strain may be airborne, even though Parvo has historically been transmitted through contact with infected vomit and feces.

9. It has always been suspected that Canine Parvovirus evolved from a similar feline virus, feline distemper, so it is ironic that cats can now be infected by the latest 2c strain of Canine Parvovirus.

10. Dogs that are infected by the latest 2c strain of Canine Parvo can die within one day of symptoms first appearing, with some dogs dying in only six hours.

11. The Parvo virus can incubate for anywhere from three days to 15 days, although five to seven days is most common. This means that your dog could be sick for up to two weeks and you would not even know it, as there would be no visible symptoms. However during this time, the virus is growing in strength, ready to wreak havoc on your dog’s body.

12. Ironically, administering a Parvo virus vaccine, especially the very first shot, can actually increase the chance of your puppy contracting this virus. This is because the maternal antibodies inherited by the puppy can kill off the modified live virus contained in the vaccine, but as shots work in part by lowering the body’s natural immune system, this actually opens up the puppy to infection by the full, live virus (not to mention other infections as well).

13. A few breeds of dogs, notably Cocker Spaniels and Poodles, appear to be at a reduced risk of contracting Canine Parvo, although this does not mean that they will not be infected.
